A Walk

Ingleborough (2, 372ft/723m Wainwright summit) – 2075ft/632m total ascent.

Approx 9. Miles. Led by Dawn

Alfred Wainwright considered the route up Ingleborough from Clapham to be “the finest of all, a classic”. He wrote about the peak in his book Walks in Limestone Country, which is part of his Pictorial Guides series, and considered it a highlight of the Yorkshire Dales. Well I thought it was pretty good, even in the rain!

We start our walk from Clapham and head north either via Ingleborough Estate (there is a £2.50 charge) or via close by woods (no cost). After 1 1/2 miles we arrive at Ingleborough Cave.

Shortly after this we arrive at the impressive Trow Gill. The climb up Trow Gill is via large rocks which is relatively straight forward. It would be slippery in wet conditions, so care needed to be taken.

We then climb the fells via good paths to Little Ingleborough which rewards with fine views of Ribblesdale and south-west to the forest of Bowland fells.

After around 4 1/2 miles we reach Ingleborough Summit.

Our descent is via good paths back down to Clapham village. Again we can walk through the Ingleborough Estate or via the woods.
