Bowfell (902m 2959ft Wainwright) Led by Richard and Keith.
Ascent from Dungeon Ghyll. Approx. 7 miles

Bowfell standing at the head of the Langdale valley is the 8th largest mountain in the Lake District and is a must for those collecting Wainwrights.
For those wanting to take on the challenge Bowfell is not the easiest of the Lake District mountains to climb. It is a hard uphill but safe walk to the summit, which will involve some clambering in parts but nothing that would cause any great difficulties and no big drops to worry about.
The ascent is via the Hell Gill route with interesting scenery, passing the three tarns and making a slight detour to visit a waterfall and waterspout.
We then head towards the summit.
The summit is strewn with boulders, but the views are spectacular and you can see at eyelevel the summit of Scafell Pike (your next challenge!!! 🙂 )
The descent is via the Band which is mainly a series of steps and if the weather is bad, it may be that we will ascend and descend via the Band that being the safest route.
