A/B Walk

Saltaire: Shipley Glen Woodland Trail loop  : Leaders Dawn and Helen

8 Miles 995 Ft of Ascent

Today’s walk is a circular walk from Saltiare, with good footpaths along the Dales High Way and Millennium Way.

We start the walk by Salts Mills in Saltaire and head towards the bustling canal tow path. A short walk along the canal leads us to Shipley Glen Woodland Trail, which is a pleasant green space with ancient woodland and heathland.

We continue along good paths with great views of the countryside. We go through more woodland with a stepping stone crossing.

Some interesting rock formations on the way.

We reach a point with great views of Saltaire and the Salt Mills as we then make our way back to the start.

We took a ride on the Shipley Glen Tramway, opened in 1895, which was fun. It was a short downhill ride through some woods. Bring some cash with you to cover the ride (£2.00 each) if you would like to do this.

There’s lots to do and see in Saltaire, including a David Hockney exhibition in the Salts Mills. All paths are good, there’s quite a few stiles to navigate.

Led by Helen and Dawn.
